Melanie grew up in the rural farm lands of the Atherton Tablelands, FNQ in a creative home with her Mum an artist and Dad a fitter & turner, and boilermaker.
So nature and creating feels like second nature.
Melanie left school early to travel Australia, living on remote beaches, in forest dwellings, and amongst the Australian bush. Every day was filled with adventure and it was a truely independent lifestyle.
At 19 Melanie gave birth to her first child & became a Mother, and 2 years later welcomed her second child.
Both of these births were traumatic, and this led to her going on to becoming a qualified Doula, passionate about women’s bodily autonomy and birthing choices and rights.
In her late 20's, while managing a spa as as qualified therapist, she planned her next child. In 2013 she gave birth to her third and final baby, and experienced an empowering birth - A VBA2C. It was this experience which led to her dreaming up a way to hold onto the raw emotion and feeling behind her collective experiences as a Mother.
Soon after her Daughter’s birth she invested a little money at first, and far more time, experimenting & self teaching skills and concepts where at that time, some of these things did not exist. Once she mastered the art of preservation and was confident enough, she started offering services to friends and family, who pushed her to expand and reach even further.
In September 2013 she launched her ‘hobby’ online, and within 3 months Beyond The Willow Tree went global, moving from a hobby to a full time business, employing women and Mothers along the way, and featuring on TV, magazines, news articles and radio - Even attending & winning awards.
Melanie's vision grew from this idea and passion behind what really matters in life and the way it makes us feel, and Beyond The Willow Tree captures this pure essence and feeling behind a physical & emotional part in someone's life, by taking their items which represent their journey and hand crafting them into delicate jewellery and other pieces in which a person can hold onto forever.
This is her life’s purpose.
